Bryony passed the Post Office and towards the Town Hall. She had received a letter in her mail that there was a package waiting for her at the Town Hall. As Bryony passed the fountain which stood outside the Town Hall's entrance, she noticed a young girl, no older than six, sitting on the edge, crying.
Bryony ignored the girl and entered the Town Hall.
"I have a package waiting for me?" Bryony said to the receptionist. "I am Bryony Winks." The receptionist scanned some papers.
"Aah, yes," she said, pulling a squashy package out from under her desk. "Her you go, Miss Winks." Bryony took the package and exited the Town Hall.
The girl was still there, crying. Bryony sat down on the edge of the fountain, a few feet away from the girl. She carelessly ripped opened the package to discover a blue knitted jumper from her Aunt in Greece. The girl's crying was beginning to irritate Bryony now. The girl was very lucky that Bryony had only recently feasted on an entire horse and a large hare.
"Oh, come on now!" Bryony shouted at weeping girl. "Do stop that ridiculous crying!" The girl sniffed and looked up at Bryony, her blue, watery eyes startled.
"I'm sorry." She wimpered sotfly. "It's just that...my Daddy died this morning." Bryony sighed. Well she had lost both of her parents at once.
"Well, why don't you go crying to your Mummy?" She said, rudely.
"I wish I could." The girl answered. She stood up and walked away, leaving Bryony confused. What did she mean? Bryony sighed and lay down along the edge of the fountain, closing her eyes and listening to the rippling water in peace.
